The National Association of Approved Morticians is responsible for determining the qualifications of applicants and issuing certificates to those determined to be properly qualified. It is unlawful for any person to practice funeral service, funeral directing or embalming unless one has been duly licensed. In order to be licensed to practice, an individual, in addition to paying the required fees, must be of good character and reputation, must satisfactorily pass the examinations by the Board and must submit evidence of education, and successfully complete 12 months of supervised apprenticeship.
